Aroids

Also known as the Philodendron or Arum family, Aroid is the collective name for this family of plants. Their main appeal lies in their inflorescence, also referred to as a 'flower' but many possess spectacularly patterned or oddly shaped leaves while their inflorescence may be inconspicuous.

The inflorescence is comprised of a bizarre yet beautiful combination of spathe and spadix and is a distinguishing feature of all aroids. Many aroids play an important role in the ecosystems of the tropical rainforests.
